Liberty, Justice, Equality

am transferring my ass to New England next year.

I am completely blown away? Bush won? This is a dream right? I am going to Canada. Who is with me?

My dearest, sweetest Michelle,

I wish I could give you some solace over this, my good friend, but I, too, no longer recognize the nation that we are in, and I'm dealing with my own sickened grief over it. I feel like having a funeral as everything I valued about this country is passing away. I realize how moral disgust alone would make you move. You must weigh things about your safety, but I'm convinced that all breaking off dialogue and moving will do is eventually give your enemies a border to attack. I half joked about this, but what if New England eventually secedes? The "red" part of the country will make it the butt of jokes, for a time that will seem amusing and peaceful, until they turn mean, and then New England gets screwed over as a result. If the trends of the last few elections continue, New England might be ruled from Ottawa.

This atavistic tide of ignorance and meanness must be stopped. If it's happening in the USA, it's happening in most of the rest of the world. If we can't stop it and turn it back here as citizens, we can't stop it at Canada.

I am not joking! I am going to New England. I will not pay taxes to a state that uphold the 3 strikes law...no way!

I'll brag that I didn't doubt you for a second, Michelle, notwithstanding any statement by what's-his-name there.

Bush won. I called hundreds for this campaign, I canvassed in the dark till 15 minutes before the polls closed. Then went to the polls and made sure those in line did not get turned away, and I gave $700 to the campaign. Those around me did all they could, too.

No excuses. It was the political battle we couldn't lose for this country or for the world, and we lost it.

I rather think California needs you, Michelle, but then again, New England or Canada would too. And of course, they wouldn't be taxing you to store the marginally guilty.

Just, please, don't lose touch. The coming years are going to challenge us all.

I prefer the USA. I am glad that Bush won, but if he hadn't, my loyalty to this country isn't so fleeting that it would be based on a single election. That said, I agree with South Park's observation that the race this year was between a giant douche and a turd sandwich.

It's not based on a single election, I think.
